Helping students to use expressive music as a means to reach their fullest potential as artists, professionals, and as people.

Teaching Experience

Dr. Frederick has been teaching both in classroom and individual settings for 10 years, offering his students flexibility, understanding and a wide range of experiences and knowledge in order to help his students reach their goals and enjoy their musical experience. Dr. Frederick currently serves on faculty at Eastern Illinois University, teaching the trombone studio, directing the EIU Trombone Choir, and teaching courses in jazz and rock music. Previously, Frederick has served as a faculty member of the Experimental Music Curriculum at the Frost School of Music, teaching singing skills, aural skills, and improvisation to undergraduate students. Frederick has also led several musical ensembles and chamber groups, as well as assisting in teaching jazz improvisation and instrumental methods courses. He has also served on faculty at the Eastern Music Camp at Eastern Illinois University and the Illinois Summer Youth Workshop at the University of Illinois, working with both middle school and high-school age students in various musical ensembles and settings. Throughout his career, Frederick has taught a wide range of students in genre, age, and ability levels. His teaching covers both classical and jazz trombone idioms, as well as lessons in jazz improvisation, arranging, and composition for all musicians.
